Common Calibers for the Survivalist
Some folks advocate for owning guns in as few, and common, calibers as possible. These would be .22lr, 9mm, 5.56, .308 and 12ga. Other common calibers for semi auto pistol are .380 .40s&w and .45acp. 7.62×39 (AK-47) is the only other relatively common intermediate cartridge. Other common full power rifle calibers are .243, .270, 30-06, and 7.62x54R. Personally I’m an advocate of stockpiling ammo in as few calibers as possible. I concentrate on 9mm, 5.56, .30-06 and 12ga. I use .30-06 because 1. It’s what I have and 2. it was actually easier to find than .308 during the last ammo shortage. I personally think it’s a good idea to have a few secondary firearms on hand that take other common calibers, even if you don’t stock up on a ton of ammo in these calibers.
